Here is the belated London Fashion Week post I promised y'all. I've been trying to avoid posting about London Fashion Week and London because I am back in the US and completely heartbroken over leaving the UK. It's so strange not waking up to the familiar sight of the London Eye and hearing American accents instead of British accents, but I haven't posted in awhile and I've been meaning to write a little blogpost about my experience at LFW, so might as well pull off that bandaid, right? The quicker, the better.
For those of you who don't know, I write for the super cool fashion+style site CollegeFashionista. My boss asked me to go to London Fashion Week and snap shots of my favorite street style looks and write a blurb on each. If you want to read my piece for CollegeFashionista, click here. Now onto my own individual experience.
London Fashion Week is everything you could ever imagine it to be and more. As I've said before, there's this bubbling electricity spilling out of the entrance of Somerset House. You can feel it 50 meters from the entrance as you start seeing immaculately dressed people walk past you all cool and calm and posh. Then, you step past the golden gates and it hits you. Suddenly, you're in another world. The world of fashion where clothes reign and it's all about dressing to get photographed. DSLRs click and shutter all around you filling the atmosphere with the sweet sounds of glamor and prestige. A line of models strut past you adorned in the season's latest trends. You're rubbing elbows with the likes of Anna Wintour (the editor of Vogue) and members of One Direction (the YOU DON'T KNOW YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL lads, you know the ones and if you don't, now you know). You twirl around, soaking in all the uniquely-assembled and kooky and beautiful outfits. As you're consumed by a euphoric giddiness, you sense the eyes of nearby well-dressed people giving you the up-down. Eyes meet. Followed by a slight nod. The sign of approval. You're in. This silent communication between LFW-goers creates a togetherness. Everyone is connected through a mutual appreciation of haute couture and avant-garde style. You feel at home. You feel like a freaking celebrity. Someone taps you on the shoulder and asks, "Can I take a photo of you?" And then you're thrust into a whirlwind of camera flashes and flattery. A horde of shutterbugs surround you and before you can get a word in edge-wise, another group of photographers spill onto your path. You pose and pray that no derpy photos end up on the World Wide Web. Unfortunately for me, because it's me, some derpy photos are floating somewhere on the Internet at this very moment. But c'est la vie.
I don't think I can put into words exactly how amazing London Fashion Week was, but I hope I gave you a little taste. Before I bring this post to a close, I'm going to highlight some of my favorite moments in bullet-point form.
-Getting snapped by Vogue Italia.
-Getting snapped by Harper's Bazaar Brazil.
-Prancing around like a fool in front of a NYLON interview because I am absolutely obsessed with NYLON and couldn't contain my excitement as soon as I saw the NYLON microphone.
-Getting interview by the British Fashion Council about my personal style and my opinions on recent trends. And then completely derping when giving them a recap of my outfit by calling my Creepers, "creepy-crawly thingies." I seriously never fail to derp in all areas of my life. Still praying that video doesn't end up online...
-Conversing with a group of German fashion students that interviewed me because they liked my style. They were so cute and earnest. One of my favorite parts of LFW was talking to the people at Somerset House because I got to learn about different cultures and their interpretations on fashion trends.
-Getting paid 5 pounds just to walk in front of a camera for the British TV series, Made in Chelsea. It's like the British version of Laguna Beach, but even more scandalous and ridiculous.
-Sitting on the steps of Somerset House and simply absorbing all the amazing ensembles. It's seriously so inspiring. I got so many new outfit ideas from just walking around the courtyard. It was like free candy hehe.
The above photos capture some of my LFW highlights. See if you can figure out which is which. The Vogue snap is definitely up there. Once again, I apologize for the crappy quality of my snaps. I didn't have my DSLR with me in London, so all the pics are from a point and shoot. Now that I am back home, however, my blogpost photos will be shot with a DSLR so yay to that! Expect some outfit posts soon! I'm going to try to post 3-4 times a week, so hopefully I stick to my goal. Oh, and you may have noticed that the last two photos in this post are so much cooler than the other ones. That's because I decided to include some of my professional snaps from London Fashion Week! The photos were taken by the talented professional photographer, William Glen. Check out his blog, here. I love his photography and he was definitely my favorite photographer I talked to at London Fashion Week.

Since I have a habit of closing my posts with a song, here is the link to the Great Gatsby soundtrack. My friend Hunter sent it to me and I thought I'd pass along this fabulous gem. My favorite is still the Lana song, but every single song in this is like eargasm so props to Baz, mang. Also, I noticed that my most popular post featured some of my poetry, so I'm going to include one of my other published poems in this post. Here is my Broken Images poem. It was published in Robot Melon, which I was especially excited about because Rae Armantrout was also published in this magazine. She was the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry winner and one of my favorite poets.
Enjoy!
xx
I think you this necklace is beautiful.
