I needed to feature this outfit in a blogpost because I am a creature of comfort. Ever since college, ok in high school sometimes too, I've been stricken with the sweatpants disease. This is why I'm often seen derping around campus, looking like a zombie in need of a Princess Diaries status makeover. The most ironic of situations occur when I'm dressed in such an unfortunate state and the subject of my fashion blog pops up. It's like #wut. Because I realize sweatpants are reserved for only college students and couch potatoes to indulge in, I've been searching for a trendy and more flattering, but equally comfortable pair of pants to replace my beloved CIF track sweatpants. After years of failure, I've finally found them! DRAPE PANTS, Y'ALL. These bottoms are the cure to the sweatpants disease f'sho f'sho. They hug you in all the right places to keep you both slim-looking and comfortable. They are so snuggly that they could double as pajama pants! I advise you to choose a printed pair because it makes you look more hip and put together. The key is to team the pants with a more formal top. I chose to wear a chambray shirt with my floral drape pants, but you could also go with an embellished collared button-down or even a graphic tank. Numbered tanks are still pretty in right now, so you could pair your pants with a numbered tank, but make sure to tuck the tank top into your pants for a more chic look. Otherwise, it'd look too much like pajamas. For shoes, I chose to tuck mine into some dark red combat boots, but a fancy pair of flats would work as well or perhaps some iridescent Oxfords if you're the daring type. The beauty of these drape pants is their versatility, so get creative! I already know I'm going to wear mine too much because now I can feel lazy but look stylish. Jackpot.
In case you're wondering, the day I wore this ensemble was the day I chased the ghosts of my favorite Beat poets, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. I chilled in Cafe Riviera (the place Kerouac used to drink and socialize), chatted in The Hungarian Pastry Shop (the place Kerouac and Ginsberg used to write and converse), sat on the steps where Kill Your Darlings was filmed (!! you know the part in the trailer where they're walking down the steps), and simply soaked in the city that inspired my favorite free souls. Both Kerouac and Ginsberg enchant me because they drove all over the US of A, ran wild, and created beautiful art whilst the rest of America lived like squares in a state of suffocating conformity. My boys disregarded societal norms and created their own rules. The original non-basics. They lived freely and fearlessly. They broke the chains. I've always admired their courage to stay true to themselves, even when society did not approve of their bohemian antics. These type of humans are the ones that give me hope.
Now, here is a taste of the rest of my NYC adventures in photographs:
“So therefore I dedicate myself, to my art, my sleep, my dreams, my labors, my suffrances, my loneliness, my unique madness, my endless absorption and hunger because I cannot dedicate myself to any fellow being.”- Jack Kerouac
