Sweater: H&M
Jeans: Mossimo
Boots: Target
Necklace: Eozy
Watch: Skagen
Outfit: Those of you who know me and read my blog probably expressed some surprise over this outfit. I admit, my kooky look is my favorite child, but I pride myself on having a chameleon (ha) style, which prohibits me from sticking to one particular look. Whilst I exhibit an undeniable affinity for boho chic and outrageous apparel (galaxy leggings, skeleton tights, glittery platform boots), sometimes it's refreshing to adopt a minimalist mentality and wear something simple, but cool. I think stripes will always stay in vogue because they give off that editorial swag. You know, the sup-I'm-the-editor-of-a-pops-fash-mag-and-I-don't-need-to-wear-overthetop-statement-apparel-to-look-stylish. Yeah, that. Basically, a striped top allows you to wear jeans and look well-dressed, which is fascinating if you think about it. At least, I never cease to be amazed by clothing that's so effortlessly fab.
If you're scared of looking too boring in jeans, I advise you to throw on a statement necklace! This necklace from Eozy instantly made my outfit more interesting. I'm convinced the piece tied my entire ensemble together and kept it from slipping into snooze territory. I also think it's important that I wore the necklace with such a basic outfit because throwing on too many statement pieces at once makes you, at least in my opinion, look like an unfortunate trainwreck. Just imagine it. It would just be too many things competing for attention aka nausea-inducing. Wearing a loud necklace with just a top and jeans allows it to dress your outfit up and gives the show-stopping jewels its rightful place under the spotlight. It truly is the perfect solution for those style rut days when you can't seem to come up with anything interesting clothing-wise. Just throw on a statement necklace and let it steal the show.
The lovely people at Eozy were kind enough to send me this necklace all the way from China, but you can totally snag one for yourself! If you want to purchase a cheap (cough cough college students) and awesome statement necklace like the one I'm wearing in this post, check out Eozy's website! They have amazing handmade jewelry for only a couple of dollars! Check out this beautiful bubble necklace for only 4 dollars! Where are you going to find a handmade necklace like that for such a great price? Um, nowhere.
Life: Today, I went on a class field trip to Chicago and now I'm fighting the urge to get in a car, drive back to my favorite US city, and spend a good handful of days there because 5 hours just wasn't enough. After spending months in a homogeneous pool where nothing spectacular seems to happen, wandering around a city full of different kinds of people and unique outfits is like a breath of fresh air. Oddly enough, I forget how much I need diversity and quirks until they hit me in the face. When this happens, it's hard to leave. This afternoon, I listened to music on a Victrola from the 1920s and spotted a guy in a leopard print jacket sewing whilst sitting criss-cross applesauce on the ground and now I feel homesick for this kitschy world full of people that aren't afraid to be different. Anyone with a fast car wanna drive to Chicago? My soul needs to run free with fearless hearts, bright city lights, and this autumn rain. I need to feel alive again.
Music: Heard this song in a restaurant this weekend and thought I'd throw all you readers down memory lane. I remember the stupid things. The mood rings, the bracelets and the beads.
Oh and sorry for all the weird faces I throw into my blog photos. All the other fashion bloggers have such serious, model photos so I can't resist making funny faces, like wow (5th photo down). Sometimes, you just gotta laugh at life, ya know?
xx
