Teenage Crime

Jumpsuit: Forever 21
Vest: DIY
Necklace: Eozy
Boater Hat: Forever 21
Flats: Urban Outfitters

I realized I haven't worn anything eccentric lately, so in efforts to bring back my kookiness I whipped out this vest. My mum was very upset about this choice because she thought I looked like a madwoman. In response to that, I'll just plop in these sage words from Allen Ginsberg (one of my favorite poets), "Follow your inner moonlight; don't hide the madness." I also, personally, think that outfits should be a tad insane. They'd just be blah boring if they weren't a little crazy, right? A pinch of wild is what makes 'em art, in my opinion.

Anyways, this ensemble reminded me of Liza Minnelli because of the hat and the sorta business-looking jumpsuit. The combo also has a bit of an androgynous vibe, which I'm a fan of. I think the whole girl-in-suit look is incredibly editor-chic. It has this inherent classiness with some bubbling potency-- the perfect haute couture duo. Of course I couldn't resist adding a dash of bizarre, so I threw on this ethnic-looking vest. It's actually from my childhood. I wore it when I was in elementary school for some Chinese New Year's play. I think I ran around banging drums and waving fans aka embarrassing times that I choose not to relive through home video. But I digress. Lucky for me, this old thing still fits, so I wear it from time to time because it's so deliciously garish and unusual aka it's the ideal piece for embellishment, especially when the rest of your outfit is all black. For a maximalist last touch, I wore my gifted statement necklace from Eozy. The bauble necklace kept my neck from looking bare and I thought it complemented the vest's bejeweled aesthetic.

On the life side of things, I've accepted two paid fashion writing/editing/styling positions for the latter half of summer before moving to London in the fall. I'm incredibly excited because fashion journalism is exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life, but I've also quickly learned that writer's block is my worst enemy. I've managed to come up with some creative ways to spark inspiration though. Like sitting in my floatie boat whilst listening to Crazy by Daniela Andrade on repeat. Hey, it helped me write my article on Iris Apfel.
