#IAMSORRY

titanium, boom shocka, kill di woofa.
If you are not weak then I will start to feel like I have had enough
of you...
Issue tears, and we in unguent failure
A veces en el verano, llueve, solo un poco, debajo de los arboles.
Of course it is a key.
Of course it is a comb.
Of course it is a haystack.
It is a mouth full of needles.
One needle clasps another.
One hand reaches for a hand:
like the excrescence of something forgotten.
The animals my skin could not contain
My _____ sparkles in the past
I wonder if holes heal
Scar tissue clumping under yr skin
like coal seams
Someone will hand u a fur mask
& an electric eel
Out there the crows freeze.
GUNS: Rat-tat-tat-tat.
RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT: What?
Sometimes they would only come sometimes.
arm in arm
with the luminary.
Or was life something else? False memory syndrome?

Feb 11: #IAMSORRY

This photo-art project was inspired by Shia LaBeouf for three reasons. 1) He is super hot and I want to marry him. 2) His Berlin Film Festival antics greatly amused me. 3) I think his recent actions make an insightful statement on originality in art. LaBeouf was berated for plagiarizing artist Daniel Clowes's work in his short film HowardCantour.com. Whereas I by no means advocate "plagiarizing" another artist's work and calling it one's own, I also must question the definition of plagiarizing. Above is a cento poem, which is a poem created using various lines from different poems. The poem is produced by taking a line from one poem and placing it next to a line from another poem and so on. Each line is a literal copy of a specific line from a published poem. Is this plagiarizing? Apparently it isn't because the poet is taking a piece of art out of its original element and placing it into a "completely new" environment of different, but also copied lines. Therefore it seems that a piece of work is original as long as it doesn't copy each and every piece (word for word in the case of poetry) of another work of art. Why then was LaBeouf's short film called into question for exhibiting similarities to Daniel Clowes's work? Why are cento poems and crop art acceptable forms of art when HowardCantour.com is not? The line between original artwork and plagiarized artwork certainly eludes me and whilst I cannot draw the line myself, I think it's important for finger-pointers to establish a consistent line themselves before throwing shade at others for plagiarizing. But perhaps drawing such a line is impossible. And perhaps poor Shia simply got thrown under such a negative limelight because he is #famous.

(Cento poem created using The Warmth of the Taxidermied Animal by Tytti Heikkinen, The Other Poems by Paul Legault, With Deer by Aase Berg and translated by Johannes Goransson, Pop Corpse by Lara Glenum, Wet Land by Lucas de Lima, Maximum Gaga by Lara Glenum, Mouth of Hell by Maria Negoni, Nylund the Sarcographer by Joyelle McSweeney, The History of Violets by Marosa Di Giorgio, Ventrakl by Christian Hawkey, Poemland by Chelsea Minnis, Twerk by Latasha N. Nevada Diggs, and tweets by the one and only Shia LaBeouf)

  1. Wow, I really like this photo-art project! It's so unique and creative!
    Also, I agree with you about the ridiculous controversy surrounding the "plagiarism," which I also don't see. Haha at least he made a scene! c;
