I bought this maxi dress from Free People about a month ago, and I've just been waiting for the weather to warm up to give me the chance to wear it outside under the sun. This week, the temperatures weren't 80 degrees and perfect like I'm used to in Southern California, but it was above 50 (I think) which is pretty much tropical and shorts-wearing climate in these parts. Of course I had to take advantage of the sun's rare presence, so I took this dress off its hanger and paired it with my burgundy hat because the combo felt very Free People and the days I look Free People are always the best of days. Due to a light breeze, I wore tights underneath the dress and threw on the leather jacket I stole from my mum's closet. For accessories, I put on my scarab necklace from Fossil, and then piled on some bracelets and rings because you can't have boho without da arm party heh.
Before I move onto music, I must RAVE about Kill Your Darlings. I finally watched the film yesterday and I absolutely fell in love. The film aspects weren't mind-blowing, but the script and the character relationships were definitely tear-inducing. At least for me. I'm a huge fan of the Beat Generation, specifically Ginsberg and Kerouac, so it was absolutely delightful to watch my lovers come to life on screen. Pre-crazy Allen Ginsberg was so adorable and endearing and I didn't even think oh-look-it's-Harry-Potter-playing-Allen-Ginsberg so yay Daniel Radcliffe! I definitely recommend watching it and to further convince you, here are some of my favorite quotes from the film:
1) Some things, once you've loved them, become yours forever. And if you try to let them go they only circle back and return to you. They become part of who you are or they destroy you.
2) Be careful, you are not in Wonderland. I've heard the strange madness long growing in your soul, in your isolation but you're fortunate in your ignorance. You who have suffered find where love hides, give, share, lose, lest we die unbloomed.
3) Another lover hits the universe. The circle is broken. But with death comes rebirth. And like all lovers and sad people, I am a poet.
Now, onto music. I was recently introduced to this radical Asian folk band called Run River North. I worked at a Goo Goo Dolls concert this weekend and they opened for them. If you like Of Monsters and Men, I recommend checking this band out. After they played their chill folksy tunes, I got the awesome opportunity to chat with two of the dudes in the band, Alex and Daniel. They were both super sweet guys. Alex had a sick beanie and hip glasses and Daniel was actually working in finance but quit his job to follow his music passions and play with Run River North. Admirable shiz, mang. If you're curious, here's some of their music. Check it out and support Asians and creativity and wild dream chasers!
1) Mr. Brightside (Cover) by Run River North
And because I've spent most of this weekend listening to Ingrid Michaelson and feeling like a wombat:
2) Over You
4) Open Hands
Also, this song makes me cry.
All I want from you
Is to see you tomorrow
And every tomorrow
Maybe you'll let me borrow your heart
Is it too much to ask for every Sunday?
And while we're at it
Throw in every other day to start
xx
